Bonds Lane two way traffic flow - comments & update

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "Bonds Lane, Biggleswade - two way traffic flow":

I'm disappointed that this is yet another project that Central Beds appears to have left only half done.

It's quite obvious form the actions of motorists that many drivers have yet to realise that Bonds Lane is in fact now 2-way. But this is not helped by the fact that although the Highways Dept has taken down the previous one-way signage, and re-marked the road as two-way, there are no yellow 'new road layout' signs indicating a change in road layout, nor are there new 'two-way traffic' signs provided at the entrance to Bonds Lane or opp the ALDI car park access. I think this would help greatly. They could also take the opportunity to correct the '2-way traffic' sign at the junction of Bonds and Foundry lane, which, although present, is actually upside-down!!

with what has been put in place on the ground, there are no markings for either Aldi car park accesses.

The drawing shows the first access to the car park behind Iceland as 2way - on the ground it's still marked as 'entry only'

The kerbline for the entrance to the car park in front of Aldi is not as drawn and the existing shape does not assist traffic turning left.

Its a shame that the 2way traffic scheme wasn't continued as far as the Health Centre - that would really be a help.

I sent  those comments to CBC Highways and have received the following reply from Transportation Watchman - Bedfordshire Highways, Amey:

Thank you for the e-mail below incorporating a message on your blog.
"The need for two-way signs on Bonds Lane is acknowledged and one such sign will be erected at each of the exits to the two ALDI car parks on Bonds Lane, today or tomorrow. Also the two unnecessary two-way signs at the southern end of Foundry Lane (including the upside down one) will be taken down.

Please would you put this on your blog as my company’s IT regulations do not permit use of social networking networks. "

  1. Was it a real intention to change the priority of the Bonds Lane/Foundry Lane junction as shown on the drawing: http://tinyurl.com/3w3dpwq ? To what ends I wonder.

Here, here regarding changing Foundry Lane to two-way, at least from the Medical Centre anyway.

  2. I noticed yesterday (Friday) that the two-way traffic signs have been installed opp the Aldi car parks as promised. But the upside-down 2-way sign at the junction of Bonds and Foundry Lanes was still there - as was the Give Way sign opp the restaurant which now conflicts with the markings on the road.

So who currently has priority here? Do you go by the road marking (priority to traffic on Foundry lane)? or by the Give Way sign? (priority to traffic on Bonds Lane)!
