16 April 2012

A 19-year-old man who was responsible for a number of burglaries which resulted in high performance vehicles being stolen has been jailed for 32 months.

Daniel Danek, of Northwood Road, Northampton appeared before Luton Crown Court for sentencing on Tuesday April 10 having pleaded guilty to the burglaries which took place in Tithe Farm Close, Langford and Polhill Avenue, Bedford in January.

Danek was arrested on January 31, 2012, when officers were on patrol in Bedford and spotted a BMW X5 – worth £30,000 - that was stationary in the middle of Polhill Avenue with its lights. The officers then saw Danek, who was being chased by the owner of the vehicle, getting into the vehicle and fleeing the area. A number of officers were involved in a pursuit which ended in Ashburnham Road.

Danek was then linked to the in Langford when an Audi A4 was stolen following a burglary but this vehicle was never recovered.

During interview, Danek asked for a number of other offences that had occurred in Northamptonshire and Cambridgeshire to be taken into consideration.

Danek was sent to a young offenders institute for 32 months for each burglary offence and an eight month sentence for theft of a motor vehicle with all sentences being served concurrently. He was also disqualified from driving for two years.

Following the sentencing Detective Constable Martyn Hynes from the dedicated Stolen Vehicle Squad, said: “We believe that Danek is part of a well organised criminal gang which was targeting the owners of high performance vehicles in the hope of stealing their vehicles and selling them on. Thanks to the work of unit and the vigilance of patrol units, we have been able to stop Danek and disrupt his gangs operation.

“The Stolen Vehicle Squad was established exactly for this type of crime and we are delighted with the outcome of this case. The fact that Danek pleaded guilty is testament to the amount of hard work that officers have put into solving auto crime and we will continue to work with our colleagues in neighbouring forces to combat organised gangs who bring so much misery to residents.”
