Parents do
not have a legal right to take their children out of school in order to go on
holiday.
Schools do, however, have the discretion to authorise absence for a
family holiday providing there are special circumstances and the request is made
in advance by the parent with whom the child normally lives.
Only in
exceptional circumstances can more than 10 school days of absence be authorised
in any one school year.
