The Great British Walking Challenge - May 2012

Take to your feet this May

The Great British Walking Challenge kicks off today as part of national charity Living Streets’ National Walking Month.
We’re urging people across the country to take to their feet and see how many times we can collectively walk between Land’s End and John O’Groats.
Every community has its own unique walking landmarks and the challenge is a great way to encourage people within your area to explore local landmarks and discover new businesses in their community. We have created a special online tool which will log every walk taken (it can add up minutes spent walking, miles covered or steps taken – and even calculate the carbon dioxide saved).
We would really appreciate it if you could help support the Great British Walking Challenge by blogging and tweeting about the campaign.
You kind find the key information needed for writing about the campaign on the press release.
If this isn’t the kind of thing you would cover on your blog any help whether via Facebook posts of Tweets would be massively appreciated. Below are a number of ways people can get involved in the challenge this year.
How you can support the Great British Walking Challenge
Sign up to the Great British Walking Challenge – And join people across the country in logging walks and cutting your personal carbon emissions. Please sign up to the challenge today and why not invite friends, making it a fun way to see who can log the most miles. Sign up by visiting http://bit.ly/IDJZqj
#mumswalk pinterest challenge- To celebrate the Great British Walking Challenge, we're challenging Mums across the country to create #mumswalk Pinterest boards. Taking part is easy just create your own board and pin images from your walks throughout May using the #mumswalk hashtag. We will be selecting our favourites for a real life walking photography exhibition we are planning for June. Create your board today. http://bit.ly/IRw6DP
Walk to Work Week - taking place 14-18 May, we want to see thousands of employees across the UK walk to, from and during work. You can sign up your workplace for free and then from the 14 May you and your colleagues can log miles and count the carbon dioxide savings. http://bit.ly/II64n7
Blog, Tweet, Post, Pin - We want to make social media an integral part of the challenge. And we’d love you to share your walking images and sounds via our website and your social media channels, remembering to use the hashtag #gbwalk. Any help you can give with spreading the word would be amazing. Follow @livingstreets on Twitter
Just Coz - we know walking is fantastic for both body and the environment and we want more people to experience its benefits. Just Coz enables you to donate your Twitter status so that we can occasionally spread updates about the Great British Walking Challenge. You can withdraw your Twitter post donations at anytime. http://justcoz.org/livingstreets
You can find campaign images in the resources section on http://www.livingstreets.org.uk/walk-with-us/events/walk-to-work-week
Please let me know if you will be able to write about the campaign or need any more information. If you have an idea of your own of how you would like to support the campaign let me know, as I am happy to discuss ideas.
I will look forward to hearing from you soon.

All the best,
