Help keep neighbourhood pavements ice free this winter

FEBRUARY 2012

Say no to icy, slippery pavements this winter

Icy and snowy pavements are a danger to us all during the winter months. Last year around 20,000 people in the UK were admitted to hospital after slipping on icy pavements.

If you’re older, disabled or have a pushchair, these ice-rink conditions make it almost impossible to venture outdoors.

It doesn’t have to be this way. Your council has a legal duty to keep pavements safe.

Living Streets, the national charity that stands up for pedestrians, is campaigning to keep pavements ice free this winter.

It would be great if you could ask your readers to join the campaign and write to their local council urging them to keep pavements ice free this and every winter.

Feel free to contact Rosanna Downes on 020 7377 4913  or

Thank you in advance for your help. We look forward to working with you to create better streets in your neighbourhood.

  1. 'The Council' may have a legal duty, but there's going to be a cost involved - even if using volunteers or Community Payback participants. Who is expected to fund this?
