Businesses in Biggleswade are asked to be vigilant and review the security of commercial vehicles, after 2 incidents have been reported.
A vehicle crime took place in Montgomery Way, on the Stratton Business Park, on Sunday 3rd July. The offence took place between 2:25 and 2:35 a.m. The vehicle was a Mercedes Sprinter Van. The offender has gained access to the yard and attempted to remove the Catalytic Convertor from under the vehicle. The exhaust system had been welded to the chassis preventing the offender from removing it.

A second vehicle crime took place at a garage in London Road, in Biggleswade. The offence took place between 6:00 p.m. on 2nd and 8:00 a.m. on 4th July. The catalytic Convertor and the Exhaust system have been removed from the underside of the vehicle.

It seems that the second vehicle mentioned above was a community minibus - run by volunteers and largely supported by voluntary contributions from the communities it serves.
ReplyDeleteI understand that the resale value of the metal stolen would be about £40 - but to restore the bus back to servicable condition would cost around £1,500. No wonder our insurance premiums are so high.
But I suppose the thieves wouldn't care 2p about the social and financial damage they are causing the community by their actions.
