Bin Collections resumed

TUESDAY 22nd JANUARY 2013

Across the region waste collection crews are carrying out today's scheduled domestic and recycling waste collections; however with safety in mind some side roads are still too icy to access. If your road is affected, please leave your bin / bags out and the crews will attempt to catch up on these collections throughout the week.

We will also try to catch up on yesterday's residual and recycling collections, dependent on the road accessibility.

Today's food waste collections in the north will be collected as normal, however if your waste was scheduled for yesterday (Monday) it will now be collected next Monday. Any additional food waste can be left out in corn starch bags for collection.

There were no clinical collections made yesterday (Monday), therefore we will catch up on these this afternoon and throughout the week, where possible. Today's collections will go ahead as normal.

All garden waste collections continue to be suspended, with garden waste vehicles being utilised to catch up on all missed collections.

Tesco Voucher scam - Be Scam Aware

The Trading Standards team is warning consumers to be wary if they receive an email that claims you are entitled to a £2000 Tesco’s voucher.

At first glance the email  looks genuine and appears to have been sent by Tesco. However, upon closer inspection the email contains a number of grammar / spelling mistakes.

This email has all the hallmarks of a “phishing” scam, as it states that in order to claim the voucher you need to be a Tesco Credit Card customer and asks you to click on a web-link to confirm your details.

These types of emails are designed to get you to make contact with the sender, so that they can either obtain personal or credit card details. In reality, there is no voucher waiting to be collected.

Our advice would be to never provide your personal or bank account details to anybody unless you are absolutely certain of their intentions.

If you have any doubt as to whether an email is genuine, ask a family member or friend for their thoughts and do not be afraid to ‘delete’ the email.

African gold export scam - Be Scam Aware

Such emails (see example below) have all the hallmarks for the beginning of a “phishing“ scam, with the sole intention to obtain your money and personal or bank details.

If you ever receive what you think is a “phishing” email, our advice is;
- never reply, this will only alert the sender that your email address is active;
- never open any attachments or click on any web-links;
- never provide any personal information or account details;
- never feel pressured into replying (for example, because the offer is a limited opportunity and is first come, first served);
- if you are unsure whether the email is genuine or not, show it to a family

member or friend and ask for their own opinion;

- finally, do not be afraid to delete the email.

Back to Blogging

Those of you who know me will understand the reason why there have been no posts for the last month.

Life's priorities change and I did consider not carry on with this blog but I have been persuaded to keep it going for the time being.
